Last Wednesday MFB firefighters tackled an 'absolutely massive' blaze in Collingwood. At the peak of the fire, paint thinner exploded, engulfing firefighter Tom Williams in flames.
Luckily, Tom was aided by the speed and skill of his colleuge Greg Hunter - but thats not the only thing that stood between him and a trip to hospital. The new uniform for firefighters, which was hard fought and won by the union, protected Tom from serious burns.
After months of hard campaigning and battles from the membership of the UFU, we successfully won the new personal protective equipment. The PPE and his mate Greg were the only thing standing between Tom and serious injury. The UFU will continue to fight for the safety of firefighters. |
