Firefighters potentially suffereing from asbestos-related diseases could be entitled to millions of dollars in compensation. The UFU has partnered with law firm Slater and Gordon to deliver justice to members who suffer from exposure to the lethal substance as a result of their work.
The UFU has established a registry to make it easy for members suffering from asbestos-related diseases to fight for justice. Already, 80 firefighters have have registered, with many more expected over the next few weeks. A retired Melbourne firefighter has recieved an out of court settlemnt $100,000 after he developed asbestosis from exposure while cleaning up burned out buildings.
The UFU encourages all affected members to register and be part of the fight for safety in the workplace and compensation for reckless negligence.
